COVID-19 Response

March 30, 2020

Dear MasterWorks Family,

We are very thankful for how people are coming together to support each other at this unprecedented time of our generations. Given that our 2020 Festival does not start until June 21st, we currently plan to have the festival. However, we are aware that circumstances may change between now and when we need to make a final decision. We have a deadline to give the final number of attendees to our host, Converse College, by the 1st of June. As we have seen, the decision making leveraged upon us is fluid with changes on a day-to-day basis from varying local, state, and federal agencies. If by the 1st of June it is clear we cannot do the festival, we would look at three scenarios.

  1. Cancel for 2020 and refund everyone in full.
  2. Consider what chamber music, wind ensemble, other ensembles and events could be done and work with interested student body members to build those programs out per whatever compliance is in place and stream concerts if audience restrictions remain. Appropriate refunding would of course apply.
  3. Consider with timing that the 2nd half (weeks 3 and 4) of the festival could still happen. Appropriate refunding would of course apply.

We have had a wonderful record number of applicants this year. Applications are still coming even in this month. We have amazing conductors committed this summer. The entire Spartanburg community is very excited for MasterWorks. I hope that we will be able to share together in a festival that is both timely and quite frankly what we all need to bring joy, unity, and healing to our nation and world with the power of worship and music for Jesus.

Let’s hope and pray we are able to congregate together in celebration of His Resurrection Day, and pray for those most affected by this global issue in health and economic factors. We encourage the reading of Psalm 91. May God’s provision and protection cover you and your families as we approach the Passover this year.  Now more than ever, we shelter under the shadow of the Almighty.

In Jesus,
Adam Smith, Board Chair
