Song Xie is a Professor of Music in violin/viola, chamber music, Director of Artist Diploma in violin performance, and music director/conductor of the Belhaven String Chamber ensembles and Symphony Orchestra at Belhaven University.
Song is a long-time soloist, chamber musician, symphony orchestra leader. His solo competition awards include the Chinese National Violin Competition, LSU Young Artist Concerto Competition, and he was a finalist at the Chautauqua Festival Young Artist Competition in New York. He has performed as a soloist with many orchestras in China and US, repertoires including Beethoven concerto, Sarasate’s Carman Fantasy, Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and many more. He currently serves as principal second violin in the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.
To answer God’s calling for excellent string education, Song served as President of the American String Teacher Association (ASTA) Mississippi Chapter from 2006-2008. His students have won prizes or placed as finalists at numerous competitions in state, regional, national and international competitions. Many of his students have been accepted with excellent scholarship to many top conservatories and universities in the country to continue their graduate study include University of Michigan, Eastman School of Music, Rice University, Peabody Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of music, and Juilliard School. Others actively teach in private studios, music schools, serve as Church music ministry leaders or audition successfully as professional orchestra concertmaster and section musicians. Song frequently
gives master classes and judges different level string competitions. Mr. Song believes that God has a unique calling for each student that is completely different. We all strive for excellence as we answer the Lord’s calling in our lives. To teach and to share his music talents is his desire; to share his personal experience of God’s love and caring in the professional music performing world for young students is a wonderful answer to his prayer.
Song has also taught at Jackson State University, Mississippi College and Millsaps College. He has served as Assistant Concertmaster at the Lyric Mountain Festival, PA, Violin Faculty member at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, MI, Concertmaster of the Delta Symphony Orchestra, and Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, MS.
His summer performing and teaching includes MSO Premier Orchestra Institute, Millsaps Chamber Music Camp, MS, Blue lake Fine Arts Camp, MI, and the CICA String Festival, AR. and yes, the Masterworks Festival!
