What is one of your favorite memories from a previous year at MasterWorks?

My favorite memory is praying before every single lesson, audition, and performance. I had never worked with so many professors and conductors whose one aim was to turn our focus back onto Christ and give Him glory through our performances. I have struggled with anxiety before most performances. But since Masterworks, I have been trying to change my mindset. My focus is changing from looking at myself and striving to be the best, to giving every practice session, lesson, and performance as a gift of worship to God. It’s incredible how the pressure just lifts, and how every single time I get to make music, it becomes so much more fun! Masterworks woke up the joy of performing and practicing and sharing my music with people.

What are you most looking forward to experiencing at MasterWorks 2016?

Spending time with all the other musicians! I have been out of school for a few years, and most of the musicians I work with now are my students. It is so much fun to commune with other musicians who are around my age, and love to talk about music!

What is one of your favorite memories from a previous year at MasterWorks?

One of my favorite memories from Masterworks is actually not a musical experience. One night at around 10 pm some friends and I decided to walk down to Winona Lake and hang out there. We ended up spending a couple hours there looking at the stars, the lake, and willow trees, talking about music and God, laughing, and getting to know each other better. That small moment was so special to me. I think it is those moments of friendship, music making, and time spent with God that make Masterworks such a special place.

What are you most looking forward to experiencing at MasterWorks 2016?

I am looking forward to so much this year!! I am extremely excited to get to play some of the rep on the docket for this summer, particularly Brahms 1 and Rite of Spring, as they are some of my favorite orchestral pieces, and I have not yet had the opportunity to play them. I am also looking forward to seeing how I grow as both a Christian and a musician, as my time last year at Masterworks was a life changing experience for me in the truest sense. When you leave Masterworks, you will leave a different person than when you arrived. In addition to those things, I am looking forward to seeing old friends, and making new ones. As a counselor, I am excited to get to know more of my peers better, and in a different respect than I did last year as just a camper. This is gonna be an awesome summer!

What is one of your favorite memories from a previous year at MasterWorks?

It’s incredibly hard to narrow down a whole array of MasterWorks memories to just one favorite! However, some of my favorite moments happened during my Bible study and during daily counselor meetings in MWF ’15. It’s a remarkable aspect of MasterWorks–growing and learning with others who also want to explore how to live intentionally in the performing arts world.

What are you most looking forward to experiencing at MasterWorks 2016?

I can’t wait to be immersed in the encouraging, uplifting environment. After a long year that has been full of many challenges, I’m ready to be refreshed and challenged in my faith. I look forward to seeing friends from past summers and making new ones!
