Today is Election Day in the United States! And while many men and women in this country are performing their civic duties, many of us sit in fear or concern over just what the results of today will hold. In response to this fear, we have put together just a few of our favorite verses of encouragement that remind us of God’s sovereignty and promise for his people.
We, as Christians, are incredibly blessed in that we do not need to fear the coming power of any man or woman, but instead, have the opportunity to turn all things to a ministry in prayer for whomever our appointed rulers are designated to be. Please take a moment to join us in just taking a breath, blocking out all of the debates and arguments, reading some encouraging scripture, and praying for God’s ultimate will to be done.
2 Chronicles 20:6
“O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.”
I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods. The LORD does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on earth, in the seas and all their depths.
I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.
Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth much more than sparrows.
The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever.
Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.
1 Peter 2:13-15
Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to the governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.
“In that day,” declares the LORD, “I will gather the lame; I will assemble the exiles and those I have brought to grief. I will make the lame a remnant, those driven away a strong nation. The LORD will rule over them in Mount Zion from that day and forever.
The LORD works out everything for his owns ends – even the wicked for a day of disaster
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the Love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
